A flamingo in the morning sun is a glorious sight to behold. Slowly, gracefully, pausing only a moment to lift his head, he dips back into the water to search for an early meal. What gives him that coral blush? Carotenoids—inside the shrimp and algae he eats for breakfast (that beak is perfect for snagging them) — the very same pigment that colors our carrots!
