This empty shell of a robin’s egg is a treasure that has fascinated children, artists, and scientists for centuries.
Ever wonder why robins try to hide their nests, and yet lay eggs that are as bright and blue as the sky? Researchers found that male robins care more for newly hatched babies that came from the brightest eggs, often feeding them twice as much as hatchlings from paler eggs.
Over the years, artists have tried to recreate this beautiful shade of blue, giving it names like eggshell blue, robins’ egg blue, and Tiffany blue.
